An Interesting Predicament
We look to the light and see ourselves in a splendour of colours But we do not see the shadows it casts; We peruse our reflections in the mirror finding ways to cover all blemish Yet we see not the gloom that lurk behind. As we wake up to the monotony of life, We look for motion pictures to move us: Some drowning in emotions from which they cannot surface Others having lost all emotions from whence they came. To society do we turn for salvation, But society is comprised of us and no other; Disfigured dolls who follow in the footsteps of those who came before: Stitched scarecrows in the wake of the sun. When the bright light bares us naked and broken We seek the darkness to hide us from sight, But once the darkness finally comes to claim us We find sorrow in the loss of the light.
